10 Tips for Creating Happiness at Home
Now that a lot of people are working from home, the logical next question follows: how do I keep motivating my employees? In this blog article, I'll give you some practical tips.

The Corona virus has us under its spell and the impact is already being felt. The fact that many of us work from home is a new reality. Where a group of companies were already busy working remotely, for others it's like finding a way in the balance between trust and responsibility. More than 380 companies are already members of the Staying Home Club and share tips & tricks in the community, mainly about the digital aspect.
Now that a lot of people are working from home, the logical next question follows: how do I keep motivating my employees? How do I stay connected and how can the experience they experience at work be continued at home in the best possible way?
Let me give you a few practical tips. This way, you can choose what suits your company culture and what is achievable:
1. Make sure your employees 'fully equiped' are to work from home
Do they have the necessary equipment to start working from home? Be sure to discuss this beforehand so that the employee can indicate what he/she is missing in order to start working from home with confidence.
2. Start the day with a check-in
For example, you can ask your employees to call in each team shortly before the start of the day. What is on the schedule? What are the concerns? How can we help each other? In addition, they will make an effort to appear in front of the camera washed and dressed, except for pajama pants or sweatpants maybe... ;-)
3. Is there a communication platform where employees can motivate each other?
Do you have a Whatsapp group? Do you communicate via Slack?
In larger companies, it is important to provide a communication cascade so that everyone within the organization receives the same messages.
4. Have everyone send a photo of their home office
That stimulates and motivates. This includes the setting, but also the temporary office dogs & cats,...
We saw a good example in the stories on the Instagram account of Officient.
5. Send a thank-you note to your employees
An unexpected thank you (e.g. an e-card) is a pleasure for your employees. They also take on their responsibilities in these uncertain times, still combine childcare with children with work,...
6. Recommend an afternoon activity
This way, you can encourage employees to go outside: getting some fresh air in the garden or on the terrace works wonders.
You can also continue your digital competitions: e.g. football matches via the Playstation online platform. You can encourage employees to attend a digital yoga session or sports session to keep them active.
7. Ask how things are going now and then
You don't have to do that 7 times a day, but if you feel that an employee is struggling, an extra “what can I do for you?” give you a helping hand to start a conversation.
8. Check the calendar
Is it someone's birthday, they've been employed for x years,... don't forget that person. You can also provide a nice gift digitally!
9. Keep communicating
Communicate about the next steps and dare to talk about when you will “re-board” everyone again. What would colleagues like on their first day of work back to the office? Provide some ventilation moments.
10. End the working day with a check-out
Set aside a fixed time in the afternoon to briefly call in together and let everyone vent about the course of the day.
So you read it; you can do quite a few things to stay connected to your team, even if you are not physically together.
In addition, it is oh so important to have faith in each other, especially in this uncertain period. Trust that employees will continue to work themselves and are thankful that they can do that in a safe, familiar environment.
A lot of courage to everyone in the near future.
